iPad 2: The Design Parameters

Apple's Design Challenge: In less than one year after the release of the first generation iPad, create a new, more spectacular iPad that is smaller without increasing cost.

Did Apple succeed? YES! On March 11, 2010 (11 months after the release of the first iPad) Apple began shipping iPad 2's to customers.

Steve Jobs, Apple's former CEO, calls the iPad, "The most successful consumer product ever launched!” He says, "the iPad 2 has flummoxed the competition." The iPad 2 is not just an iPad with a few extra features. It boasts an all new design and is faster than before, while still maintaining the same 10-hour battery as the iPad. Better yet, the price did not increase. The iPad 2 is consistent with Apple's known sleek and simple designs. As before, it is still a hands-on device that has an LCD screen with finger print and scratch resistant glass to keep it looking clean.

Apple still offers the same memory options as before: 16, 32, or 64 GB. The iPad 2 can come programmed to work with either Verizon or AT&T's 3G service.
The iPad 2 can access all of Apple's stores: iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store. There are over 90,000 apps available through the app store--talk about endless possibilities. The following 18 apps come standard with the iPad 2.
